Johannesburg – An East Rand car salesman facing over 800 charges which include child rape, child exploitation, sexual assault and the possession of child pornography pleaded guilty on Wednesday in the South Gauteng high court.

The state told the court that the accused had entered into a plea and sentence agreement.

The man was alleged to have taken around 50 pornographic pictures of a child and shared them online under the alias "APE man".

The pictures were reportedly distributed to users in the United States where they were detected by Homeland Security in that country.

Police arrested the suspect at his workplace on Wednesday.

They raided his home where they found several laptops, external hard drives, cellphones, memory cards, a mini spy camera, a digital audio player and a PlayStation console.

The 39-year-old man will face charges of possessing, creating and distributing child pornography.

Judge Cassim Moosa told the two witnesses that they had to be present in court on Friday.

"Both parties [ state and defence] have come together with a plea and sentence agreement."

He said it would take more than a few hours for him to read over the documents submitted by the state and the defence counsel.

The matter was postponed to Friday.
