Johannesburg - Carl Pistorius, brother of murder accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius, arrived at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court for his culpable homicide trial on Wednesday.

Pistorius was involved in an accident on March 8, 2008 that led to the death of Maria Barnard. She was on a motorbike and collided with Pistorius's bakkie.

He arrived shortly before 9am, wearing a black suit.

Some of his family were present, seated in the front row of the public gallery.

The media were given a chance to take pictures and videos ahead of the proceedings. The court room was not as full as the previous trial session.

State witness Anton Coetzee was again sworn in at 9.10am, ahead of proceedings. At his previous appearance Coetzee was asked to recall the accident.

The court previously heard the road where the accident happened was in a semi-agricultural area. There were often domestic animals on the road.

Coetzee said he and other bikers were participating in a “poker-run” the day of the collision.

He testified there was nothing Barnard could have done to avoid hitting the back of the bakkie. She was thrown forward five to 10 metres.

Kenny Oldwadge, for Pistorius, said his client would testify he was overtaking another car when the accident happened. - Sapa
