Pretoria - A cash-in-transit van was ambushed in Pretoria on Friday, police said.

Captain Jan Shawane Sepato said a Mercedes Benz rammed into the van on Simon Vermooten Road in Silverton around 9.15am, causing the van to overturn.

Shots were fired as three other cars arrived on the scene.

“Two men opened the rear door of the van and took an undisclosed amount of money,” Sepato said.

Seven people fled the scene in the three cars.

The Mercedes was left behind. Police later linked it to an earlier crime in Primrose, Johannesburg.

The occupants of the van were injured and taken to a local hospital. - Sapa
