A member of the board of inquiry into the conduct of National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele has been robbed, the board said on Friday.
Three men armed with R5 assault rifles robbed the member and their family last Friday, said spokeswoman Bongiwe Gambu.
She said the rifles were of the same type as those - belonging to the VIP Protection Unit tasked with protecting President Jacob Zuma - which were recently reported stolen from a safe at Waterkloof Air Force Base.
The men also stole laptops and the house keys and car keys before fleeing.
“There are many questions that remain unanswered because the armed men knew exactly what they were looking for. They chose only laptops and keys.”
She said the board member did not sleep at the house that night for security reasons, but did activate the security system.
On Saturday, it was discovered that someone had attempted to break into the house but was unsuccessful, said Gambu.
She said police were investigating. - Sapa
