Cape Town - A man facing 21 charges, including rape, murder, and robbery, made his seventh appearance in a Cape Town court on Friday.

Because the charges include rape, he may not be identified until the day he goes on trial and pleads to the charges.

The man, 30, of Gugulethu in Cape Town, appeared in the Goodwood District Court, before magistrate Sean Lea, who remanded him to November 31.

He was arrested in January.

A letter on the court record, from the Western Cape Directorate for Public Prosecutions, directed that the man be arraigned in the High Court, on seven counts of rape, five of aggravated robbery, four of murder, three of kidnapping, one of attempted robbery with aggravating circumstances, and one of common assault.

According to the court record, he is alleged to have robbed and raped a woman at Acacia Park in Goodwood in February 2013. It is alleged that the victim was robbed at knifepoint of R100 cash and her cell phone.

A second robbery allegedly happened in May last year when another woman was threatened with a firearm and robbed of her handbag, containing her cell phone, her train ticket, her student card, and a pair of shoes.

According to the charge sheet, one of the alleged murders happened in December last year, when the victim, a woman, was attacked with a rock and hit on her head in bushes at Century City.

The court record did not have details of the remaining charges.

At Friday’s proceedings, senior State advocate Mornay Julius, said the investigation was almost completed.
