Johannesburg - The investigation into the shooting of musician Khuli Chana has been finalised, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

“The case docket was discussed with the senior State prosecutor and referred to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision,” acting provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba told reporters in Johannesburg.

“Both case dockets, the attempted murder charges opened against the members of the 1/8SA Police Service 3/8 as well as the attempted murder charges against Khuli Chana is at the office of the DPP for a decision.”

Mothiba said police were expecting a decision to be made soon.

Police shot at Chana, whose real name is Khulane Morule, in his car when he allegedly failed to stop at a roadblock they had set up at a petrol station on the N1 in Midrand on October 28. Chana was hit in the hand and back.

Police had been searching for a group of men who had kidnapped a Bedfordview, Johannesburg, businessman. The ransom money was to have been left at the petrol station.

A police officer has since been arrested and charged with the kidnapping.

Last month, Chana's management company said police should compensate the hip-hop musician for missing a performance after he was shot and wounded.
