Durban - A man who was sought for the murder of a 4-year-old girl and the attempted murder of his girlfriend was found dead at Mbumbane near Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said police were investigating after the body of Nhlakanipho Nxele, 24, was found with a gunshot wound and a home-made firearm next to him. Police believe the suspect shot himself.
“The shotgun will be sent for testing.”
Zwane said on Tuesday Nxele stabbed Lindelwa Shezi, 4, on her way to school at Mafunze. “She died at the scene,” he said.
Last Saturday, at about 9.30pm, Nxele allegedly shot a 28-year-old woman. “She sustained three gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital.”
He said police started searching for the man on Sunday.
Circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.
