East London - The Eastern Cape High Court handed down two life sentences on Wednesday to a man who raped two children, police said.
Captain Mluleki Mbi said Thanduxolo Magoswana, 31, was sentenced for the rape of a seven-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy. Both rapes took place in Mdantsane, near East London.
He raped the girl on December 15, 2009.
“On further investigation it was discovered that the man was working as a gardener in the house next door to the girl's home, where he allegedly called her into the house and raped her,” Mbi said.
He raped the boy on September 11, 2010.
“According to information the boy went missing in the afternoon and the family together with the community started to conduct searches. The boy was seen coming home with the suspect,” Mbi said.
“Police were then called in to investigate, where the suspect denied all the accusations levelled against him by the boy, but was later connected to the scene by his hat found on the scene, as pointed out by the boy.” - Sapa
