Cape Town - A Chinese national found in possession of rhino horn and shucked abalone was arrested at the Cape Town International Airport on Wednesday, provincial police have confirmed.

“A 32-year-old Chinese national was arrested at Cape Town International Airport on Nature Conservation and Marine Coastal Resources Acts charges,” said the Western Cape police spokesperson FC Van Wyk on Thursday.

The suspect was travelling to Durban when the SAPS Border Police anti-smuggling team made the arrest, finding him in possession of five kilograms of rhino horn and shucked abalone.

The suspect was currently in police custody and would appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court soon.
