MIddelburg - The two suspects who filmed their assault of a black man by placing him in a coffin appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Wednesday, where they abandoned their application for bail.

The case was postponed until January 25 where the men are expected to face charges of kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The video of the incident shows Victor Rethabile Mlotshwa cowering and moaning in a coffin as one of his tormentors pushes part of the lid over his head and upper body to close the coffin. In the 20-second video one of the suspects threatened to pour gasoline in the coffin.

Various political parties such as the Democratic Alliance, African National Congress and the Economic Freedom Fighters gathered with their supporters outside of the court in Mpumalanga to protest the assault.
