Upington – A correctional services official in Upington was arrested by the Hawks after being caught with R15 000 worth of drugs in his possession, the Hawks said on Wednesday.
The man was arrested at work at an Upington jail the past weekend, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesman Philani Nkwalase said.
“It is alleged that his colleagues acted on information and found him in possession of drugs valued at R15 000,” said Nkwalase.
He was arrested on the spot and the Hawks were called to investigate.
He appeared in court on Tuesday where he was granted R2,000 bail.
