Cape Town – A police officer accused of involvement in a multi-million rand cash-in-transit robbery in Kraaifontein in Cape Town, made his first appearance in court on Friday.
Sandile Mroqoza, 34, who holds the rank of constable and is based at the Nyanga police station, appeared in the Blue Downs District Court before Magistrate Vincent Ketye.
He faces two charges – robbery with aggravating circumstances and the use of a police vehicle without consent – related to the heist in which more than R4 million was taken.
It is alleged that Mroqoza used the police vehicle in the execution of the robbery.
The robbery happened on Tuesday, and an aggravating factor is that a firearm was used.
According to the charge sheet, an amount of R4 300 000 was netted.
Defence attorney Celeste Holmes scheduled a bail application for May 19, which is to be opposed by the State.
The magistrate ordered that Mroqoza remain in custody.
