Rustenburg - A convicted rapist has been arrested for raping three people and attempting to rape another in Ledig, North West, since his release from jail, police said on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old was arrested on Tuesday in a bushy area behind the Moses Kotane Hospital where he had been hiding from police, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

He faced three charges of rape and one of attempted rape.

The man was released on parole in 2012 after serving 13 years in jail for a rape committed in 1999.

After his release, the man allegedly used the same methods of lying and luring victims, aged between 11 and 28, to a house in Ledig, where he raped them.

“He allegedly told one of the survivors that he would assist her with an application to get an RDP house, while he promised one of the minor survivors money,” Mokgwabone said.

The man would appear in the Mogwase Magistrate's Court on Friday.
