A policeman and his son appeared in Waterval Boven Magistrate's Court on Thursday after a man was assaulted and a woman raped, Mpumalanga police said.
The men, aged 50 and 23, remained in custody and would apply for bail when they appeared again on July 2, Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.
On Sunday at about 2am, the son offered to drive a man and his girlfriend home but then stopped the vehicle and assaulted the man, forcing him out of the car.
He drove to the Bloukrans area in Waterval Boven where he allegedly assaulted and raped the woman before driving away in the man's car.
“A case of attempted murder, rape, robbery, assault and kidnapping was opened against the son,' Hlathi said.
“The father was charged with defeating the ends of justice, as it is alleged that he destroyed evidence to be used against his son.” - Sapa
