Cop arrested after assault

North West - A policeman was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a man during an argument at a tavern in Setlopo Village, North West police said on Saturday.

The two were drinking traditional beer at a tavern on Friday morning when the incident took place, said Captain Adéle Myburgh.

“The 51-year-old man was stabbed with a knife at the back of his left shoulder during the argument,” she said.

The police were alerted to the scene by witnesses.

The officer, who was based at the Potchefstroom police station, was then arrested.

He was expected to appear in court to face a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. - Sapa
