A teenager is fighting for her life in hospital after she was shot by her jealous policeman ex-lover.

A love triangle ended in blood and death after Constable Mcedisi Magalakanqa, 32, shot his ex-lover, Nontombi April, 18, and her boyfriend Mbulelo Wele, 24.

Magalakanqa then ended his own life with his service pistol.

Mbulelo was pronounced dead on the scene but Nontombi narrowly escaped death.

The incident occurred last Friday at Nontombi’s Mfuleni home where the constable went looking for his ex-lover.

Nontombi’s sister Busisiwe April, 25, says her sister had broken up with the older police officer a long time ago.

“I came home at around 8pm and Nontombi was next door,” she tells the Daily Voice.

“Apparently this cop she had been dating came by the house three times that day demanding to see her.

“The first time he found my sister in the house, the second time Nontombi and her boyfriend [Mbulelo] were standing outside, where they all got into an argument with the cop.

“Mcedisi left and came back a few hours later with a gun.

“My sister tells me he came by and was swearing at her.

“He peeked through the window waving his gun around screaming for her to come out.”

The police officer eventually kicked a hole in the door and crept into the house.

“She says he first shot Mbulelo, then went after her and shot her in her arm and leg,” says Busiswe.

“She cried out once and heard another gunshot and realised Mcedisi had killed himself.”

Mbulelo’s mother says all she wants is for police authorities to explain who is to be held responsible for her son’s death.

“I don’t understand how any of this happened and why the police are allowed to walk around armed with guns ready to kill us,” says Nocawe Wele.

“Mbulelo did not fight with this cop, the officer was the one stalking this girl and my child ended up caught in the crossfire.”

Mbulelo leaves behind two children, a four- and a five-year-old.

“He was the breadwinner here at home and I don’t know how we will survive,” says Nocawe.

“No one has bothered to come to the house and tell us what happened and this is upsetting.”

Nontombi’s mother Nolubabalo April says she is ashamed of the tragedy brought by her daughter’s sordid love life.

“I feel bad for that dead boy’s family because he came here for my daughter and was killed by a man who wanted her dead,” she says.

“I cannot even bring myself to go and see Mbulelo’s mother because of what happened.

“We are not at peace with what happened but we don’t know what to do.

“A cop killed himself in my house and he came here with the intention of killing my daughter.

“I never met or heard of this police officer, the only boy I knew was Mbulelo because he and my daughter had their own troubled relationship.”

Police say the matter is being investigated.
