Elliotdale - A police officer was hacked to death with a panga and his attacker shot dead in Elliotdale in the Eastern Cape, police said on Thursday.
Constable Phumlani Mgoboli, 29, attended a domestic violence complaint with a colleague on Wednesday, said Brigadier Marinda Mills.
The man at the scene pulled out a panga and attacked Mgoboli. The other police officer shot the man several times.
“Both the police officer and the suspect were transported to Zithulele Hospital where they later died,” Mills said.
