The policeman, who cannot be named until he has pleaded to the charges, also faces a robbery charge.
According to the charge sheet at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, the policeman allegedly raped a 31-year-old woman in Hilton on the night of June 14.

According to sources close to the investigation, this is not the first time the policeman has been suspected of similar offences.
The case has been adjourned to October 18 for an opposed bail application.
