A constable accused of raping a woman appeared in the Upington Magistrate's Court on Monday, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said.
Spokesman Moses Dlamini said the matter was postponed to Tuesday, as the 29-year-old constable's attorney was not present in court.
Dlamini said he would remain in custody and was accused of raping a 28-year-old woman in the early hours of Saturday.
“He allegedly offered the woman a lift home from a tavern, but instead he drove to a remote area in the vicinity of Groblershoop Dam where he raped her.”
The constable was arrested soon afterwards, and was handed over to IPID investigators. - Sapa
