Johannesburg - The case against a police officer accused of shooting dead a protester was postponed in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Malusi Maila appeared briefly and would be back in court on August 4.

The matter was postponed because Maila's lawyer was not in the province.

Maila was one of four police officers arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Tshepo Babuseng, 28, but was the only one charged with murder.

Babuseng was shot dead when residents of Durban Deep, Roodepoort, on the West Rand, barricaded roads with stones and burning tyres in a protest over a lack of housing in January.

Maila is out on bail of R5000. - Sapa
