Johannesburg - An off-duty policeman has been shot dead during a robbery at a supermarket in Pretorius Street, Kempton Park, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.
Around 6.30pm on Monday three armed men held up the supermarket and shot the 48-year-old detective warrant officer four times, Captain Doniah Mothutsane said.
The policeman was shot twice in the stomach and twice in the right thigh. He was stationed at Tembisa police station..
The robbers stole R5 000, 30 boxes of cigarettes and airtime vouchers.
No one had been arrested by 6.15am on Tuesday, Mothutsane said. - Sapa
