Cop killed in Khayelitsha

Cape Town - A police officer has been killed during an investigation in Khayelitsha, Western Cape, the department of community safety said on Friday.

MEC Dan Plato said in a statement the 37-year-old officer - who was stationed at Lingelethu West, in Khayelitsha - was shot on Thursday night and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“I am deeply saddened and extremely angered to have learned that yet another of the province's bravest men in blue have been shot in cold blood in Khayelitsha.”

He sent condolences to the officer's family, friends and colleagues.

He said a suspect was arrested.

“I trust the law will take its course and justice will be served.”

The SA Police Service was not immediately available for comment. - Sapa
