A police constable shot and killed his girlfriend, also a constable, at their house in Namakgale before committing suicide, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Lt-Col Ronel Otto said the bodies of Rhulani Linda Mavunda, 35, and her boyfriend, Sipho Phalane, 32, were found on Monday morning.

“Both had bullet wounds to the head and they were declared dead on the scene.”

It was believed Phalane shot Mavunda before shooting himself. A case of murder and an inquest had been opened.

Police officers with emotional problems were urged to make use of the supporting services provided, provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Simon Mpembe said. - Sapa
