Rustenburg - A police officer accused of attempted murder appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, North West police said.

Constable Given Makale, 30, was released on bail of R1000, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

The matter was postponed to October for further investigations.

Makale was arrested on Saturday for allegedly shooting and wounding a 30-year-old man along the N4 near Waterfall mall in Rustenburg.

“The victim was in possession of a fellow police officer's private motor vehicle that was stolen on Friday at Majakaneng near Brits,” Mokgwabone said.

“At the time of the incident, the police official had not yet reported the matter to the police.”

Makale was off-duty at the time of the shooting.

He is stationed in Marikana.

Mokgwabone said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate was investigating the matter.
