Port Elizabeth - A 38-year-old man accused of housebreaking was arrested in Motherwell in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, Eastern Cape police said.

The man was caught on the M17 towards Kwazakele after a car chase, said Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu.

He was arrested in connection with a crime in which a woman was allegedly robbed at gunpoint.

“The man took the keys of a Toyota Corolla, an undisclosed amount of money, and two cellular phones.”

The vehicle was spotted and police gave chase.

“They had to fire a warning shot at the tyre of the vehicle for the suspect to stop.”

Police recovered the stolen goods, a firearm, and 57 rounds of ammunition.

The man would appear in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court soon.
