A 42-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for a gruesome assault on a Modimolle woman, Limpopo police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the man was arrested in Makapanstad, near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.

He was one of three men wanted for the attack, allegedly orchestrated by fugitive Johan Kotze on his estranged wife.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate's Court on Friday pending further police investigations.”

Mulaudzi said the police recovered Kotze's Toyota Fortuner in Modimolle on Tuesday night.

Kotze is on the run after the assault on his wife and allegedly killing his teenaged stepson in Modimolle.

“A team of investigators, with the assistance of the police helicopter, is combing the area where the vehicle was found abandoned.”

Police investigations were at an advanced and sensitive stage and more arrests were imminent, said Mulaudzi.

He said police were closing in on Kotze.

“He fled on foot, the net is closing down on him.”

Mulaudzi dismissed rumours on the social networking site Twitter that Kotze had been injured in a car crash following a high speed police chase.

“That is not true. We have never confronted him.”

He said police were also tracking the other two men involved in the attack.

“We have two teams - one concentrating on Kotze and the other one tracking down the two men.” - Sapa
