Johannesburg - Four people - three men and a woman - were arrested after a car chase in Bloemfontein, where police found four live sheep in the boot of their car.

Captain Chaka Marope said police were on routine patrol along the N8 on Wednesday around 02:00 am when they spotted a suspicious silver Peugeot.

The car, which was travelling towards Botshabelo – Thaba-Nchu, failed to stop when police tried to flag it down.

A high speed car chase ensued. However, police eventually caught up with the speeding car at the Rudolph Greyling off-ramp.

"Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered four sheep in the boot. The driver failed to provide the police with the valid ownership documentations," said Marope.

The police captain said the sheep had been reported stolen a "few hours ago". They had been stolen from a smallholdings in the Bainsvlei area.

Marope said the men aged between 34 and 40 and the 32-year-old woman face stock theft charges and will soon appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court.
