Potchefstroom – Police at Marikana, near Rustenburg, have launched a manhunt for six suspects who attacked a couple and a male relative, killing the husband, at a farm at Spruitfontein on Thursday night, North West police said.

“According to the information received, a 63-year-old man, his 50–year-old wife, and a 41-year-old relative were asleep when six armed men broke the door and gained access to the house,” Captain Paul Ramaloko said in a statement on Friday.

When the assailants entered the couple’s bedroom, the husband tried to reach for his firearm and was shot once in his chest. He died on the scene. The suspects assaulted the wife and forced her to open the safe, allegedly containing two 9mm handguns. The relative was tied up with shoe-laces and assaulted.

The wife was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the relative was also admitted to hospital but was later released.

The suspects fled in the couple’s vehicle, which was found abandoned in Mooinooi on Friday morning.

“The suspects are still at large and a case of murder, house robbery, and attempted murder is being investigated,” Ramaloko said. African News Agency
