Bloemfontein - Two detectives appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Thursday for allegedly stealing money meant for informers.

The 61-year-old retired detective lieutenant and 36-year-old serving detective sergeant face charges of corruption and theft, Captain Chaka Marope said.

The two, working for the Parkweg detective unit, allegedly defrauded the state of an undisclosed amount of money between 2006 and 2012.

The Hawks arrested them on Wednesday night in a sting operation as part of an ongoing investigation into police corruption.

They would remain in custody until their next appearance on Monday. - Sapa
