Police are searching for a man who has raped at least two women after promising them work. They also want communities around Rustenburg to be vigilant, as police fear he might strike again.

The suspect allegedly raped his first victim, a 19-year-old woman, on May 11. This was after he had approached her and told her his brother was an employer at an Impala Platinum mine near Rustenburg.

“They exchanged contact numbers and he told her that he would set up a meeting with his brother,” said police spokeswoman Captain Tselane Nkala.

He arranged to meet her five days later at a KFC fast food outlet in Rustenburg.

Nkala said they had taken a taxi to Mogwase, and on the pretence of taking an alternative route to the mine, lured her to an isolated spot, where he raped her.

A month later, the alleged rapist struck again, said Nkala.

This time the man, believed to be in his 20s, approached his victim in Krugersdorp. Like before, he promised her a job. They exchanged numbers and met several days later.

They boarded a taxi to Mogwase, and when they got there, as with his previous victim, he allegedly took her to an isolated area and raped her.
