When a man got into a taxi from Soshanguve to the city on Wednesday he did not expect to be arrested by Tshwane metro police officers.

The man was in possession of a bag filled with stolen cellphones and laptop computers.

Metro police spokesman, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said they received information about the taxi and the Zimbabwean national and pulled the taxi over.

“We had a description of the individual and we found and searched the bag he was carrying. He had about eight cellphones with him and two laptops.

“We arrested him in Sunnyside,” Mahamba said.

The suspect confessed to police that he had more stolen electronics and agreed to show them the house in Soshanguve where the goods were hidden.

Police raided the house and arrested four more suspects, aged between 23 and 35, for possession of stolen goods.

In the house, police found 38 cellphones, 15 laptop computers, four television sets, three DVD players, a video camera, two amplifiers, two desktop computers, a pair of binoculars, a printer and a bicycle.
