A young woman was allegedly raped in the toilet of an upmarket restaurant in Parktown North.
A young woman was allegedly raped in the toilet of an upmarket restaurant in Parktown North last week.
The woman, believed to be a student at the University of the Witwatersrand, had been visiting the Full Stop Café in Seventh Avenue last Tuesday when the attack is said to have occurred.
A sexual assault and rape case has been opened at the Parkview police station, but the restaurant management said the incident was not reported to it on the night of the alleged attack.
It was only two days later, when police arrived at the restaurant to collect statements from the staff, that the management was told.
“Had the alleged incident been reported on Tuesday night, Full Stop would have implemented swift action as the restaurant does not tolerate behaviour of this kind,” read a statement on the restaurant’s Facebook wall.
“Full Stop, which has operated for more than 16 years, has never had an incident like this before.
“The restaurant places the safety and wellbeing of its patrons at the highest priority.”
The incident is to be fully investigated by the Parktown family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit.
