Free State - A man was rescued after he was kidnapped in Virginia, Free State police said on Sunday.
“The victim's brother told the police that they (family) were receiving calls from an unknown male who demanded R50000, or else the victim would be killed,” spokesman Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana said.
A police team was assembled to look for the victim, Timothy Madhoche, on Saturday morning.
“The SAPS telephone management system office was contacted to help trace where the kidnappers made the calls from.”
The trace led the police to the farm Emmarensia. Police arrived on Saturday afternoon and found a green Mazda 323 with three men inside. They fled on foot when police approached.
Madhoche was in the car, with his hands and feet tied. He was unharmed. He told police he received a call from one of his friends who told him there was someone who wanted to meet him.
“The man pointed a pistol at Madhoche, forced him into the car and drove off.” - Sapa
