Cape Town - A man and woman are in police custody on charges of drug dealing after Kimberley police intercepted a vehicle found to be transporting dagga (marijuana) with an estimated street value of R600 000, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana said police received a tip-off about a bakkie travelling on the N8 in the direction of Kimberley, leading to the arrest of the 32-year-old woman and the 38-year-old man on Tuesday.

“Subsequent to a tip-off, the Kimberley Flying Squad Members were strategically positioned and deployed to patrol possible get-away routes leading into Kimberley. A white bakkie with identical description was spotted on Oliver Road heading direction Kimberley Central Business District (CBD), and was pulled over,” said Tawana.

“During investigation 49 black refuse plastic bags filled with dagga were found stashed in the bin of the bakkie, enclosed with a canopy.”

The suspects are expected to make their first appearance in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
