Cape Town - A 28-year-old man was arrested for being found in possession of a .38 revolver during a stop-and-search operation in the Nyanga Cluster, police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk said the arrest took place on Monday.

“The suspect is facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday).”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police arrested another 28-year-old man for being in possession of drugs valued at R2 000.

Van Wyk said police received information about a male who was allegedly dealing in drugs and went to a house.

“Upon arrival the house was searched and 44 stops of dagga and 43 Mandrax tablets to the value of R2 000 were confiscated.”

The suspect was arrested and was due to appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Van Wyk said.

“Members also confiscated a toy gun from a suspect at Brown’s Farm. He was imitating it as a firearm and a 27-year-old suspect was arrested.”
