Cape Town - A 55-year-old man from Holland has been arrested after police raided a house in Durbanville and uncovered an illegal medicine manufacturing facility.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said the arrest followed after members from Border Police based at Cape Town International Airport had established that parcels from an individual were being mailed to various international destinations. They tested one of the parcels and found it to contain traces of heroine.

“An investigation was then conducted by the Provincial Drug Unit who held back all the parcels and had one analysed by specialists who found it to contain an illegal substance similar to heroine.

“This morning, Thursday 20 August, at 10am an integrated operation was conducted the WC Provincial Drug Unit, Metro Police, SARS Customs, DTI and medicine control authority officials at a residential estate in Durbanville where an illegal medicine manufacturing facility was uncovered. Numerous items of equipment, glass tubes and containers, as well as a variety of chemicals were found in two rooms on the premises.”

Van Wyk said: “A 55-year-old man, originally from Holland, was arrested and is to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Monday 24 August.”
