Welkom - Two off-duty policemen were wounded when armed robbers opened fire on them in Welkom on Friday, Free State police said.
The two officers were taken to hospital, said Captain Stephen Thakeng.
“It was also suspected that one of the three suspects was shot (and wounded),” he said.
“A firearm belonging to the suspects was found lying on the floor and seized.”
The three men had attacked a security officer and tied him up in a foiled robbery attempt.
They drove off in a silver Corsa bakkie, and police were searching for them. - Sapa
