Johannesburg - The body of an unknown man was recovered by police divers from a canal on a farm in Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape, police said on Wednesday.

A woman noticed a cap floating on the water and informed a work foreman who alerted the police on Tuesday afternoon, said Warrant Officer Gerda Swart.“Another woman told police the man was only known as Maradona and he was last seen on Sunday on his way to a farm in Kirkwood,” she said.

He was believed to be in his 40s and police were searching for his family. An inquest docket had been opened to establish the cause of death. - Sapa
