An increase in children's deaths due to neglect in the North West is worrying, the provincial Cosatu said on Monday.
North West secretary Solly Phetoe condemned the most recent deaths of two children in Wolmaransstad and Zeerust on Wednesday.
An 11-month-old baby drowned in a bucket used as a chamber pot, while a two-year-old drowned in a bucket of water that had been used for washing laundry.
“In our view this is pure neglect and we call on parents not to let their children go out of their sight.”
He said authorities should investigate the reason for mothers leaving their children unattended. – Sapa
