Couple detain wife’s rapist

Butterworth - A rapist was overpowered by his victim and her husband and handed over to the police in Ibika Township, near Butterworth, on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

The 32-year-old woman was asleep with her husband when she heard someone breaking down their door, said Captain Jackson Manatha.

“A male voice told her to keep quiet. The couple complied with the suspect, who robbed them of their cellphones before raping the woman in front of her husband,” he said.

It woman's husband attacked the man while he was raping his wife.

“The husband overpowered the suspect with the help of his wife and subdued the suspect before calling the police,” said Manatha.

The 30-year-old rapist was taken to Butterworth Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. He would appear in court on Friday. - Sapa
