Kimberley - The Northern Cape High Court on Friday granted an application by the Trifecta accused to refer their matter before the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Former ANC Northern Cape Provincial chairman John Block and the CEO of Trifecta Holdings Christo Scholtz who were not present in court when judgment was delivered, were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each after they were found guilty on charges of corruption and money laundering.

The charges relate to kickbacks that were offered to unduly influence the awarding of leases to Trifecta for government offices.

The application for leave to appeal was granted against their convictions only and not their sentences while bail for the accused was extended pending the outcome of the Supreme Court of Appeal application.
