Cape Town – Elsies River Community Policing Forum deputy chairperson Imran Mukaddam has resigned.

Speaking to IOL Mukaddam said his decision came after the murder of three-year-old Courtney Pieters, whose little body was found in a shallow grave in Epping on Saturday.

“The core reason why I resigned was because I feel not enough was done.” he said. He also said that the CPF did not do enough for Courtney during the time the community had conducted a mammoth search for the little girl.

“It was a very emotional decision because I blame myself for this,” he said.

Mukaddam also said that he cannot be part of a policing system that's built on so much red tape and constraints.

“Since Courtney's death I’ve been having sleepless nights and it's taken a toll on me emotionally” he said. Mukaddam also plans to remain as active as possible in the community and to be more hands-on.

The toddler went missing on May 4 from her home in Salberau, Elsies River.

On Monday a 40-year-old man was arrested in connection with the heinous murder of the little girl.

The suspect is expected to make an appearance on Wednesday in the Goodwood Magistrate's court.
