Lawyers representing a Maitland learner driver who has been charged with culpable homicide after she knocked over and killed her driving instructor, are trying to obtain video footage of the incident.

This emerged in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday when Deborah-Fay Nontokozo, 30, appeared.

The driving instructor, Christina Scott, was also a top science journalist. Scott had been giving Nontokozo, who works at Research Africa, a parking lesson in Observatory on October 31 last year when the incident took place.

Nontokozo allegedly lost control of the car and hit the accelerator, driving into Scott.

In court on Friday, Nontokozo’s lawyer, Neil Johnson, asked magistrate Aziz Hamied to postpone the case

so that he could obtain the video footage.

Hamied granted the request and postponed the case to August 30.
