Port Elizabeth - A 77-year-old pedestrian killed in Mount Frere was run down by a car escorting Eastern Cape rural development MEC Zoleka Capa, the DA claimed on Friday.

“It is alleged that MEC Capa's Audi Q7 collided with Nomvume Dabula, 77, in the Mount Frere CBD (on Wednesday),” Democratic Alliance leader in the province Athol Trollip said in a statement.

He claimed the car was part of Capa's “blue light bullies” and that Dabula's family contacted the DA to ensure the matter was not covered up.

Mount Frere police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Cynthia Nkamba confirmed that a culpable homicide docket was opened after a pedestrian was hit by a car on Wednesday. She could not provide further details.

Capa's spokesman Ayabulela Ngoqo said he would comment on the DA's allegations later in the day.

Trollip said the DA would table parliamentary questions about the incident.
