Cape Town - The DA laid criminal charges on Tuesday against the Road Accident Fund’s (RAF) chief executive, Eugene Watson, saying they had evidence that fraud was committed.

Laying the charge at Cape Town Central police station, DA shadow deputy minister of transport Chris Hunsinger said they were in possession of evidence that supported their allegation of fraud taking place at the RAF.

The DA was laying charges on behalf of people who were battling to get compensation from the fund.

Hunsinger accuses the RAF of manipulating their systems, which led to beneficiaries waiting longer than the stipulated three-year period for their payout.

In a statement, the RAF’s senior manager for media, Linda Rulashe, said the RAF had taken note of the DA’s allegations and that the party had laid charges against Watson.
