Durban - Police recovered the bodies of a father and his eight-year-old son at La Mercy beach while a street child helped recover a body at Durban’s beachfront this weekend.
Police said they were investigating the murder of the child Lavesh Ramdass, and had opened an inquest docket into the death of his father Dhaniram Ramdass, 39.
The father and son were found strapped together.
Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said post-mortems would be conducted to determine the causes of death.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said: “Paramedics found that the two had been pulled from the surf and were strapped to each other. They had died before we arrived.”
Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man was found at the Durban beachfront last night.
The body was spotted floating in the sea by members of the public, said a metro policeman, who cannot be named because he is not authorised to speak to the media.
“A streetkid pulled the body out of the sea,” he said.
The policeman said the body of the man, who was in his thirties, had started to decompose, but could still be identified.
Botha said the body was floating in the surf near Joe Cool’s when it was spotted by fishermen.
Captain Troy Allison of the SAPS search and rescue unit confirmed the incident, but said a full report was not yet available.
