A Cape Town father will appear in court on Wednesday on charges of child abandonment after a six-month-old baby was left locked in a parked car in Wynberg.
Police were notified of a baby boy locked in a car with the windows closed in a parking lot near the public library on Tuesday afternoon, as temperatures reached 26 degrees Celsius, police spokesman Warrant Officer November Filander said.
Police did not know how long the 32-year-old father and the child’s mother had left their son in the car.
“At about 11am police found that members of the public had broken the window on the driver’s side to remove the baby,” he said.
The father was arrested at the scene. The baby was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment.
