Polokwane - The trial of a Limpopo father, who allegedly killed his four sons by slitting their throats with a knife, was on Monday adjourned for a day in the Limpopo High Court.

The proescution said there was “a representation that is before the director of public prosecution”, which the court needed to consider before deciding to grant bail or not.

As a result of the request, the court decided to adjourn multiple murder accused Lesiba Kekana’s bail hearing to Tuesday when it would be able to view the said evidence on Tuesday.

Kekana faces four charges of murder after he allegedly killed his children in September last year.

Brothers Bokang Kekana, 13, Keneilwe Kekana, 10, Hlologelo Kekana, 6, and Lekgoledi Kekana, 4, were brutally stabbed to death and their throats slit with a knife allegedly by their father.

Allegations are that the accused had earlier had an argument with their mother, Lorraine Kekana. Their mother was away when the children were murdered.

Police allege that the accused used a kitchen knife to stab and slit the throats of his children at their home in Moletlane, Zebediala outside Polokwane.

The children were found dead in the pool of the blood.

Neighbours informed the mother of the horror. At the time she was in Gauteng, where she works.

Before the bail hearing was adjourned the court heard that prior to the murder of the children, Kekana had allegedly attempted to kill his wife.

The accused allegedly attacked his wife with an axe. He allegedly hit her hand with the sharp end of the axe as she tried to fend off the blow.

Police said Lorraine Kekana suffered injuries to her hand, but her husband and other family members persuaded her not to lay a complaint with the police. In another violent incident, the accused allegedly tried to set alight his wife’s residence in Gauteng, while she was inside.

Kekana’s bail hearing will resume on Tuesday.
