Port Elizabeth – A self-confessed porn addict will finally be jailed at St Albans Prison in Port Elizabeth after he decided not to proceed with an attempt to get his looming jail time re-looked at by another court after leave to appeal was granted.
Jayde Sheldon Bailey, 35, was convicted and sentenced earlier this month to an effective five years behind bars for "outrageous" crimes involving online sexual exploitation of babies and young children.
In a guilty plea he had earlier admitted to having being involved in an international child pornography ring which depicted young children and babies being sexually exploited.
An emotional Bailey, who could not fight back the tears, was back in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Earlier this month, Magistrate Johan Herselman granted leave to appeal the sentence, however it soon became obvious that Bailey had decided to opt out.
Bailey, who has been out on bail, was seen wiping away tears as he thanked the Investigating officer Sergeant Delene Grobler.
"Thank you for everything you have done, it really made a difference," he told her.
The emotional porn addict also said he was not looking forward to prison time.
Grobler was then heard saying to Bailey that he would have to go to jail.
The case has been described by officials close to the investigation as one of the most horrific child pornography cases to be uncovered, as whereas police would usually take statements from victims, in this instance acts of sexual exploitation involving young children were seen with the naked eye via video.
Graphic details earlier emerged of images depicting naked young children posing in provocative positions and in one instance, a baby with an umbilical cord still attached, Bailey used a file sharing programme called "gigatribe" where child pornography would be sent to and from from one user to another, and although Bailey did not produce pornographic material, he benefited by making money off distributing the pornographic material.
On the programme, paedophiles with a fetish for the sexual abuse of babies would have cyber conversations where they would view and discuss images depicting the torture, murder and rape of newborn babies.
Bailey was arrested last year in an international police operation called Cloud Nine.
Charges against him included the importing, possession and distribution of films or publications which contain depictions or descriptions which encourage or promote child pornography or the sexual exploitation of children.
Meanwhile, the case against a 22-year-old Port Elizabeth woman alleged to be part of an international child pornography ring, was postponed in the city's magistrate's court on Monday.
The matter was postponed for the state to conclude a plea and sentence agreement.
She has not formally pleaded to the charges against her and cannot be named.
The woman was arrested last year in the international police operation Cloud Nine and faces charges which include the procuring and possession of films or publications which contain depictions or descriptions which encourage or promote child pornography.
She will be back in court on May 3.
