A father of six appeared in the Seshego Magistrate's Court on Thursday on two counts of murder and 29 of rape, Limpopo police said.

Lt-Col Ronel Otto said the case against the married man was postponed to June 20, for further investigation.

“He remains in custody,” she said.

The man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, was arrested on May 22, when police linked him to blood stains from crime scenes.

“After seven years of intensive investigations, police believe they have caught a serial rapist who has been terrorising the community of Moletjie, outside Seshego and the surrounding homesteads since 2005,” Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said at the time.

Seshego is near Polokwane.

“Blood stains found in two separate crime scenes linked the suspect with the murders of a 14-year-old girl and a 72-year-old woman.”

Mulaudzi said the man's modus operandi was to study the movements of women who lived alone, break into their houses, threaten them with a knife or a firearm, and then rape them.

Forensic results confirmed the samples in all 29 cases to be from the same suspect, Mulaudzi said. - Sapa
